Clarke Tops Kinard in NY-9

The Congresswoman claimed victory in New York's 9th Congressional District, which includes Ditmas Park.

Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, D-Ditmas Park, claimed victory in New York's 9th Congressional District Primary Tuesday night, moving on to the general election and significantly beating her rival, Attorney and Minister Sylvia Kinard.

Clarke won with 88 percent of the vote, besting Kinard who claimed only 12 percent.

Clarke has represented Ditmas Park as part of the 11th District- but now included in the 9th District- since 2007, and told Ditmas Park Patch that she believes her work to improve district conditions and address issues that hit close to home is far from over.

"I certainly have spent the past 5 and a half years concentrating on building relationships in the District," Clarke said.

"I look forward to really engaging in Washington and in the District on behalf of the people I represent. Pure and simple, it's the reason I'm running for reelection. It's a labor of love for me."
