Ditmas Park Streets Make it to Greenest Block Semifinals

Residential and commercial blocks are considered for the grand prize

The  announced the semifinalists in its Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest, and there are many blocks in the neighborhood that made the cut.

Residential semifinalists include East 17 Street between Avenue H and Glenwood Road; East 19 Street between Avenue H and Glenwood Road; and Glenwood Road between East 17 Street and B and Q Subway Line.

Commercial semifinalists include the west-bound side of Cortelyou Road between Westminster and Argyle Roads; and Newkirk Plaza between Newkirk and Foster Avenues.

The Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest promotes streetscape gardening, tree stewardship, and community development in the borough of Brooklyn through block and merchant associations and other community groups, according to the contest's website.

Winners will receive cash prizes or gardening tools, and all participants will be awarded a recognition certificate.

In addition to prizes for residential and commercial blocks, prizes are also awarded for Greenest Storefront, Best Street Tree Beds, Best Window Box and Best Community Garden Streetscape. Winners will be announced in August.
