1. It's almost Thanksgiving, which means it's getting to be turkey season across Brooklyn. Reportedly 1 in 5 New Yorkers are food insecure. So many nonprofits are giving out turkeys around the city that one in Flatbush even resorted to giving out parts instead of whole birds. (Brooklyn Paper)
2. Development began on the long-awaited Shirley Chisholm Rec Center in East Flatbush, named after the first Black congresswoman, and first Black woman to run for president. But don't expect to be swimming in a new pool anytime soon: the center is slated to open in 2025. (Brooklyn Paper)
