1. One East Flatbush public school went the extra mile this Thanksgiving, by providing warm meals to families during "turkey day," as well as donating over 400 cans of food to charity. (Canarsie Courier)
2. The Brooklyn Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College is looking for submissions for its National Writers Conference in the Spring. This year's theme is “The Beautiful Struggle, Black Writers Lighting the Way.” Submissions must be made by Monday, Jan. 7. (Brooklyn Reader)
3. New York lawmakers are considering their options to increase voting rights in the state in lieu of the failure to pass two constitutional amendments. They want to move the date for registration to 10 days before an election, and to extend no-excuse absentee voting through 2024. (Gothamist)
4. Amid rapidly evolving news around the newly identified omicron COVID-19 variant, Mayor De Blasio and Governor Hochul encouraged caution yesterday, suggesting masks should be worn indoors at all times. They stopped short of reinstating a full mask mandate. (NYC Patch)
