Here are the top five stories in Ditmas Park-Flatbush today:

  1. New York City midwives are hesitant to celebrate the passage of a bill intended to make it easier for independent, community-driven birth centers to open up in New York State. The bill, as they see it, is still too restrictive. East Flatbush and East New York lead the city in life-threatening complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth, at 500 per 10,000 births. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. The Brooklyn Democratic Party chose to back Nikki Lucas in an East New York special election for State Assembly for the seat vacated by Charles Barron. Its nomination is a blow to the Barrons, who are supporting Keron Alleyne, who's now running on the Working Families Party line. (Brooklyn Reader)
  3. 'We Are Winning' against omicron, according to Mayor Adams. He's referring to a significant drop in daily cases and hospitalizations over a seven-day period. But, he warned, community transmission is still at a high level. (New York City Patch)
