Here are the top stories in Ditmas Park-Flatbush today:

  1. The fire on Lenox Road in Flatbush displaced the residents of 24 apartments, some of whom are now temporarily living in homeless shelters. Many residents accuse their landlord, Pinnacle Management, of neglecting to assist them, and attribute the cause of the fire — which Pinnacle declined to comment on — to ongoing work on the building's roof. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. Brooklyn homeowners may soon have protections against predatory real estate agents looking to buy and redevelop their properties. Governor Kathy Hochul signed a law on Sunday asking the New York Department of State to consider designating Brooklyn as a "cease and desist" zone — allowing homeowners to opt onto a no-call list. The measure was supported by State Senator Kevin Parker, who represents parts of Flatbush and East Flatbush. (Brooklyn Reader)
  3. Parents at a public school in East Flatbush expressed both excitement and dismay at getting the 5-11 year old children vaccinated. According to News12, almost 17,000 newly eligible kids have gotten the vaccine so far. (News 12 Brooklyn)
  4. Monday saw the lifting of a pandemic-era international travel ban to the United States. And that means international tourists, and families separated by borders, are already heading back to New York City. To enter the country foreign citizens must have a WHO-approved vaccine (which does not include Russia's widely-used Sputnik V and China's CanSino), and show proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
