200 Trees will be given away by Compost for Brooklyn, New York Restoration Project and MillionTreesNYC.

Compost for Brooklyn, New York Restoration Project and MillionTreesNYC is giving away 200 trees this Sunday at the Community Compost Site from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Led by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and New York Restoration Project, MillionTreesNYC is a citywide initiative that has set a goal of planting and caring for 1 million new trees across the five boroughs by 2017.

Rain or shine, the group will be giving away many different tree species, including hybrid magnolia ann, fringetree, green gage plum, elberta peach, regina cherry, crape myrtle, crabapple, flowering cherry and purpleleaf plum.

The Community Compost Site is located at 736 East 8 Street. Plan to arrive early as trees may run out before 1 p.m.

Please note that trees cannot be planted as street trees, on rooftops or terraces, or in city parks.

For questions, please contact Mike Mitchell at the New York Restoration Project by email at mmitchell@nyrp.org or by phone at (212)333-2552. To see this year's full tree giveaway schedule, click here.
