Green Initiatives, Halloween Fun Fest in Ditmas Park Saturday

Cortelyou Road and Newkirk Plaza will be bustling with activities this Saturday.

 

Flatbush Development Corporation, Sustainable Flatbush, and the Flatbush Food Co-op is holding a day of Green Initiatives Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Food Co-op at 1415 Cortelyou Rd. 

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. feed your confidential papers and documents into a giant shredding truck, dubbed Shredzilla.

"Local business owners and residents are encouraged to bring all of their sensitive paper records, income taxes, social security information, medical records, accounting, payroll, cancelled checks, legal documents, and credit card statements and for the recommended donation of $5 for each bag or box, your paper will be shredded into confetti and recycled," an announcement for the event noted. 

In addition, FDC is organizing a neighborhood project called the Green Corridors Initiative inspired and aided by the New Yorkers for Parks Daffodil Project.  Our mission is to vitalize our blocks by planting daffodils in public spaces.

Residents are also encouraged to bring their unwanted electronics to event, free of charge, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The following working and non- working items will be accepted: computers, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, video games, cell phones and PDAs.

Residents can also bring iPhones or other handheld electronics from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to the event so officers from the 70th Precinct can etch personal information onto your device to prevent theft.

Separately, Almac Hardware is sponsoring their annual Halloween Fun Fest in Newkirk Plaza from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.  The event will include pumpkin painting, face painting, temporary tattoos, and goodie bags. Come on out and enjoy a family day of fun for the kids.
