  1. Crime is up in East New York and Brooklyn as a whole, according to the NYPD. There have been 25 murders reported in the neighborhood so far this year. (Brooklyn Reader)
  2. A man took a stolen yellow school bus for a "joy ride" across southeastern Brooklyn, after stealing it in East Flatbush. In video footage the bus is seen plowing through parked cars. (New York Daily News)
  3. New York City private and religious schools such as Yeshivas will face a vaccine mandate starting on December 20th. The mandate will affect approximately 56,000 employees. (NYC Patch)
  4. A new centrist bi-partisan alliance is forming in the City Council between GOP members and centrist Democrats. They hope to be 10 members strong. Members include Kalman Yeger, whose district borders Flatbush and Ditmas Park to the south. (Gothamist)
  5. Brooklyn's Haitian communities are hit particularly hard by food insecurity. While there aren't official statistics available some nonprofit food pantry operators that between 25-80% of the people they serve are Haitian. (Haitian Times)
