Local Volunteer Effort to Head to the Rockaways

District Leader Rodneyse Bichotte and the Transit Forward Coalition are looking for volunteers to join Saturday's relief efforts in the Rockaways.

 

District Leader Rodneyse Bichotte, the Transit Forward Coalition and the Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club are mobilizing city buses to transport volunteers to the Rockaways for relief efforts Saturday, Nov. 10. 

Volunteers can be picked up from 9 a.m. at Manhattan at 7th Ave. between 17th and 18th Streets, 9:30 a.m. at 1424 Fulton St. in Brooklyn, 10 a.m. at 1396 Flatbush Ave. between Farragut and E. 26th St. and at 10:30 a.m. from 232-06A Merrick Blvd in Laurelton, New York.

Relief work on site will end at 3 p.m.

Suggested items to donate include: flashlights; batteries, especially AAA and D; battery powered radios; battery powered clock radios; new winter clothing including sweatshirts and hoodies; sweaters; fleece jackets; coats for men, women and children; new gloves; new scarves; new socks and new winter boots for men woman and children.

Supplies for children are also needed, including: baby diapers; wipes; lotion; notebooks; school supplies; bookbags and backpacks; games and toys. General supplies needed include: paper towels; plastic garbage bags; bathroom tissue; personal hygiene hand-sanitizer; soap; toothpaste and toothbrushes; deodorant; moisturizing lotion; feminine products; household cleaning products, especially bleach and rubber cleaning gloves.

Non-perishable food is also needed, as well as pet food. 

Newspapers are also high in demand, as people want to know what is going on.

Please pre-pack individual food and toiletry bags that will be delivered door-to-door.
