Mathieu Eugene Responds to Concerns Voiced at Traffic Forum
Letters were cent to the 66th Precinct, 70th Precinct and the DOT to develop solutions for problematic areas.

Councilman Mathieu Eugene, D-Ditmas Park, has taken the next step to solve the many traffic problems that plague Cortelyou Road and the surrounding area.
Following a traffic forum where residents, politicians and government officials came together to discuss traffic issues along and near Cortelyou Road and brainstorm ways to alleviate these problems, Eugene sent letters to the 66th Precinct, 70th Precinct and Department of Transportation to develop solutions.

The letter to the 66th Precinct and the 70th Precinct notes traffic violations including:
- Slocum Place between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road: Residents report that motoristsfrequently speed through stop signs at this location.
- Intersection of Cortelyou and Stratford Roads: Motorists turning left from the northboundStratford Road swerve to pass stopped buses picking up passengers, creating a hazardous condition forpedestrians.
- E 19th Street and Dorchester Road: westbound traffic is often heavy and motorists drive at highspeeds without yielding to pedestrians. Traffic lights are E17th and E18th are often simultaneouslygreen, allowing motorists to travel from Ocean Avenue to Rugby Road without slowing or stopping
- Stratford Road (between Cortelyou and Beverly Roads): speeding motorists
- Marlborough Road (between Cortelyou and Beverly Roads): speeding motorists.
"I would greatly appreciate your reviewing these reports as soon as possible in order to address the dangerous conditions at these locations," Eugene wrote.

In his letter to the Department of Transportation, Eugene noted problematic locations listed by residents at the meeting as well as their suggestions for improvement including traffic and stop light considerations, crosswalk considerations, additional signage, speed bumps, louvered traffic lights, FDNY parking, Coney Island Avenue and Cortelyou Road intersection, bike friendly markings and lanes as well as beautification.
"I would appreciate your reviewing this list and letting me know what we can do, as a community, to resolve these matters as soon as possible," Eugene wrote. "I would like to reconvene in three months' time in order to assess our progress on some of the smaller issues and begin to address our long term goals."
