Family Safe After Rugby Road Fire

House near corner of Ditmas Avenue caught fire just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Dec. 21, 1 p.m.: Patch just spoke to the family living at 517 Rugby and they said everyone is unharmed, except their dog, who was treated for smoke inhalation but will recover. 

The fire began at the outside of the house in connection with some repair work. While there is significant smoke damage, the house's structure is sound.

The family has received many offers of help from friends and the community and is thankful to everyone who has reached out, a family member said.

A fire broke-out at a detached house on Rugby Road between Ditmas and Dorchester avenues just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

There were no injuries, an FDNY spokesman said.

About 60 firefighters fought the blaze, putting it under control in about 20 minutes, the spokesman said.
