NYWC Celebrates 10 Years with Ditmas Park Workshop
City-wide writing workshops will give writers of all levels a chance to flex their creative muscles.

Ditmas Park writers will have an opportunity to flex their creative muscles taking advantage of the many writing workshops throughout the city held Friday by the New York Writers Coalition.
NYWC is celebrating their 10 year anniversary Friday, May 18 by holding free, city-wide creative writing workshops. Ditmas Park residents can head to the Lefferts Gardens in Prospect Park from 1-2:30 p.m. or the Kensington Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library from 4:15 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.
Workshops will be held Friday rain or shine, the spokeswoman continued, noting that the workshop held in the Lefferts Garden will be moved inside the house in the case of rain.

The workshop being held at the Kensington Library is geared toward writers ages 8- 12, according to a spokeswoman for NYWC who spoke to Ditmas Park Patch. "However, anyone regardless of their age is welcome to attend," she said.
For something a bit closer to home, on Friday there is also an ongoing weekly free workshop geared toward writers ages 10-12 at the Cortelyou Road branch from 3-4 p.m., she said. "Our model is you can writer whatever you want to and we're open to all levels," she continued.

"After some time, there will be a chance to share your writing," the spokeswoman said, however, it is entirely voluntary. "If you want to read, you can."
She noted the workshops are not meant for criticism, but as a starting point to foster creative writing. "We're hoping [participants] learn about New York Writers Coalition, that they enjoy writing with us and find their voice."
