Residents Fed Up with Coney Island Ave. Parking

Locals expressed their concern with Coney Island Avenue's parking and driving conditions to Ditmas Park Patch Thursday afternoon. The Avenue is notoriously haphazard with double-parked and speeding vehicles that make for an accident waiting to happen. 

"People are just lazy," said Kreset Desy, who works near the Avenue. "Some people double-park, even where there's a space available. At least put your hazards on because some people aren't paying attention." 

Desy noted that the Avenue is especially problematic for people who work on or nearby it. "I understand [New York City] want money off the meters, but for business people, they should issue permits to park," she said.

She added that the Avenue becomes very busy when children are let out of school, and that something needs to be done because the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous. 

Natalie Benson, a student at a nearby school, agreed, saying that double-parked cars make crossing Coney Island Avenue nearly impossible. "I've been late to school trying to cross the street because cars were where they shouldn't be," she said. 

When asked what she thought should be done to improve the situation, she answered immediately: "Give out more tickets or tow the car!"

William McGinley, a local resident, echoed Benson's sentiments, saying that the police might have to issue more tickets to enforce the laws of the road. "It's a bad situation," he said.
