Severe Storm Watch Issued for NYC, Tornadoes Cannot be Ruled Out
Damaging wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible

The National Weather Service is forecasting severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon through the evening for the New York City metropolitan area as wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible.
The NWS also noted "a couple of brief... but potentially damaging... tornadoes cannot be ruled out."

The most active wind periods are likely to be in the afternoon and late into the night. Residents should watch out for downed trees and power lines, and should avoid driving at times of extremely high wind.
Homeowners should also make sure any lawn or playground equipment is properly secured.

Heavy rainfall is also expected, and could reach two inches, causing flooding in drainage areas.
