Bed Bath & Beyond CFO Falls To Death From Tribeca Building
Gustavo Arnal, 52, died the same week the company reported it would close a number of its locations and reduce its workforce.

TRIBECA, NY — A man who fell to his death from a Tribeca high-rise has been identified as Bed Bath & Beyond CFO and Executive Vice President Gustavo Arnal, according to police and news reports.
An NYPD spokesperson told Patch a call came in around 12:30 p.m. Friday for a person found unconscious who had fallen from an elevated position.
The spokesperson confirmed the man's identity as 52-year-old Gustavo Arnal. Police also confirmed the address where the incident happened was 56 Leonard Street, also known as the "Jenga Building."

Arnal's death came two days after the struggling retailer said it would close 150 stores and cut 20% of its workforce. The company said it had received $500 million in new financing to shore up its business model before the important fourth quarter holiday shopping season.
According to The NY Post, Arnal fell from the 18th floor of the building. He joined the company in 2020.

The company confirmed in a statement that Arnal died Friday.

I am proud to have been his colleague, and he will be truly missed by all of us at Bed Bath & Beyond and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him," said Harriet Edelman, independent chair of the Bed Bath & Beyond Inc.
