Funeral Services Set For LI Couple After 'Tragic' LDW Boat Accident

EAST ISLIP, NY — Memorial services have been set for a married couple who were killed in a "tragic" Labor Day Weekend boating accident.

Visitation for Renee and Louis DeRitis, of Oakdale, will take place at Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., located at 200 East Main St in East Islip for 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.

A private cremation will also take place, the funeral service website said.

In lieu of flowers, loved ones are asked to make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, American Cancer Society; American Heart Association; or the Brain Research Foundation.

The couple died after their 27-foot 1989 OC/MA collided with a 44-foot 1989 Henriques Sport Fisherman in the bay, just north of Ocean Bay Park, between North Channel and Range Channel, police said.
