Meet East Islip High School's Valedictorian And Salutatorian

These two are not only academic scholars, but also impressive musicians.

EAST ISLIP, NY — This year's valedictorian and salutatorian at East Islip High School have more in common than good grades.

They're both accomplished musicians, too.

Valedictorian Kathryn O’Hara is an AP Scholar with Distinction and an accomplished viola player.

She's performed in the school’s pit orchestra, serves as Honors Symphony president and earned all county honors in the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA).

But O'Hara's list of accomplishments doesn't stop there.

She serves as president of the Science Honor Society, is a National Honor Society member, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards facilitator, Just for Kicks senior instructor and ACE Mentor Program of Greater NY volunteer.

Next fall, O’Hara will attend Tufts University in Massachusetts where she'll major in civil engineering.

Salutatorian Kevin Huang is also an AP Scholar with Distinction and a violin player.

He serves as president of the Math Honor Society, president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and earned New York State School Music Association's All-State and SCMEA All-County honors.

Huang also has a passion for athletics. He's the captain of the school’s varsity boys tennis team and earned All-County honors.

After graduation, Huang will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a computer science major.
