Obituary: Robert Ottone, Famed LI Ducks Announcer, Dies At 72

The grandfather of two passed away on Sunday. A funeral service will take place this week.

Died: February 17, 2019

Visitation: Wednesday, Feb 21 and Thursday, Feb. 22 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home on 200 East Main Street in East Islip.

Service: Friday, Feb. 22 starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home on 200 East Main Street in East Islip.

Obituary: Robert A. Ottone, of East Islip, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17. He was 72.

After a successful career as a disc jockey on Long Island radio, Ottone became an educator at Brentwood High School and remained an esteemed mentor to the many students he taught through the years.

Upon retirement from teaching, he became the public address announcer for the Long Island Ducks where he combined his two passions: baseball and broadcasting.

Ottone is survived by his wife, Joanne, as well as his children; Ed, Jaimie (Eric) Lane and Robert.

In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Azlynn and Braxton as well as his brother Ron Ottone.

Entombment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Pinelawn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's loving memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
