Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
I believe that Joseph should be nominated to be recognized for many reasons. He has been running track for years, and began the high school team when he was only in 7th grade. He has been given the scholar athlete award consistently every season since he has started high school.
When he was a freshman, he was motivated to ask the coach if he could try out the high jump. Upon starting high jumping, he worked hard to accomplish what he likes to do.
He has received first place in the frosh-soph championship in winter track 2021-2022, he was first place in all-division, all-league, the Suffolk County Championship, and the state qualifier. He ranked 13th in NYS, and he was the only freshman to qualify for the state championship in the 2021-2022 season.
In spring track, he placed 2nd place in the Suffolk County state qualifying meet jumping 6’2”. He has just additionally received the All-League for cross-country as voted by multiple coaches across Suffolk County. He has also been given the MVP-award at East Islip High School for winter and spring track. In cross country, he also received the coach’s award.
Aside from running, Joseph has recently received the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 205, performing over 88 hours of community service through the troop; not including his own Eagle Service Project St. Mary’s church, including over 60 hours of service.
He is a well-rounded young man who is always encouraging others, regardless of if they are his teammates or his competitors. He strives to do his best in everything he does and helps others to the best of his ability.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
Joseph works very hard for everything that he achieves, and he is always trying to set new goals for himself. Not only does he push himself, but he also encourages others to perform to the best of their ability.
Keep up the great work, Joseph!
