U.S. Women's National Lacrosse Team, With 3 LI Players, Wins At SBU
The national team, with three players from Long Island, played an exhibition game at Stony Brook ahead of this summer's world championship.
STONY BROOK, NY — On Wednesday in Stony Brook, the U.S. national women's lacrosse team played their last tune-up game before the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's Championship this summer. The team, with three players who hail from Long Island, defeated Athletes Unlimited 15-8 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
The U.S. women's team is the reigning world champion, winning in 2017. This summer's championship, delayed a year due to the pandemic, will take place in the U.S. There will be a record number of 39 countries participating.
Three players from Long Island are on the team: Sam Apuzzo from West Babylon, Ally Kennedy from North Babylon and Kylie Ohlmiller from Islip. Over 2,000 spectators were on hand to watch the match, according to the team's publicist.

Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina is an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s team.
The championship runs from June 29 through July 9.
