Video: Anti-Trump Bar Funds Progressive Charities, Drink By Drink

Coup, a new bar that plans to donate to progressive charities with each drink sold, opened in April in New York City.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — One of New York City's newest bars has a different approach to your average water hole: Coup, the proudly anti-Trump bar that opened near Astor Place this month, funds progressive charities with each drink sold.

The pop-up bar opened at 64 Cooper Square on April 14, and said it will donate all of its profits to charities like Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union as a means of protesting President Donald Trump's agenda. Here's how the bar works: When you purchase a drink at Coup, you'll get a wooden token with your cocktail. You can pick which cause will get the profits from your beverage by putting your token in one of several tip jars throughout the bar. The bar is temporary, but its managers have promised that it's stick around as long as Trump is president.
