Off-Duty Cop Robbed, Beaten In East Village: NYPD, Reports

The victim was robbed at gunpoint on East 13th Street and Second Avenue and struck in the head during a struggle, police said.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — An off-duty police officer was robbed at gunpoint and assaulted Thursday morning in the East Village, according to reports and police.

A 28-year-old man was walking on East 13th Street near Third Avenue around 5:45 a.m. when he was approached by an unknown person, police said. The robber pulled a gun on the victim and demanded their property, police said.

The robber struck the victim in the head — causing bruising and multiple lacerations — during a struggle, an NYPD spokesman said. Several reports identified the victim as an off-duty police officer, but an NYPD spokesman said the department could not confirm the detail.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s who was wearing a yellow and blue hooded jacket, black pants and gray sneakers. Police released a photo of the suspect (seen above) on Thursday.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police said.

No arrests have been made in connection to the robbery and the NYPD investigation remains open, a department spokesman said.
