East Village Bicyclist Killed By Garbage Truck In Greenpoint

The 27-year-old male bicyclist was struck and killed early Saturday morning.

GREENPOINT, NY — A 27-year-old bicyclist was killed after being hit by a garbage truck in the area of Franklin Street and Noble Street in Greenpoint, police said.

The NYPD said officers were called to the area around half past midnight on Saturday. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 27-year-old man lying on the road with severe trauma to his body.

EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was identified as East Village resident Neftaly Ramirez.

An investigation revealed that the bicyclist was riding along Franklin Street when he was struck by the garbage truck, which was going southbound on Franklin street, police said. The truck, which was green with yellow and white writing, did not remain at the scene and kept going along Franklin street.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
