Closed Cheese Shop Causes Stink In East Village, Neighbors Say
East Village Cheese unexpectedly closed its doors this month, leaving its cheese behind.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — An East Village cheese shop that shut its door last week has apparently left its unrefrigerated produce behind – and it's stinking up the neighborhood, neighbors say.
East Village Cheese at 80 E. Seventh St. mysteriously closed earlier this month with no notice, according to the neighborhood blog EV Grieve.
About 10 days later, neighbors said they began to notice the smell.

"The smell of cheese is seeping into my hat shop and I am looking for ideas for how to get the place emptied before it rots," Julia Knox, owner of the neighboring East Village Hats, told EV Grieve. "My biggest concern is that the smell is going to be unbearable pretty soon, and a potential rat problem."
Patch reached out to some of the neighboring businesses on Seventh Street and will update this post if we hear back from them. Patch could not contact East Village Cheese on Friday morning because their listed phone number was not working.
