NYC's First Dog Cafe Set To Open This Month

The city's first dog-friendly cafe is getting ready to open this month in the East Village.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — New York City's first dog-friendly cafe is getting ready to open this month.

Boris and Horton, which will open at 195 Avenue A, plans to open its doors to humans and their four-legged friends alike in January, according to the cafe's website. According to Secret NYC, the cafe could be serving you and your pup in just a few days.

The cafe gets its name from the co-founders' pooches: Boris, a pit bull terrier mix, and Horton, a 12-pound mystery breed.

The shop will offer coffee and light snacks, plus lots of accessories for you to pamper your pup with.

The cafe notes that it's the city's first Department of Health approved dog-friendly cafe. Unlike cat cafes throughout the city, the coffee shop won't have live-in pups meandering throughout the store. Customers are welcome to bring their own dogs while enjoying their coffee.

The shop will have two spaces, the co-founders told Grub Street: a cafe side, where all the food and drinks will be sold, and a dog side, which will have seating for dogs and humans and a dog-friendly photo booth.

The shop is located in the space previously occupied by the Ost Cafe, which was priced out of the neighborhood last year after nearly a decade in the East Village, according to the cafe's owners.
