Fire Breaks Out At East Village Con Edison Facility: FDNY

The flames sparked in an office at the energy company's substation, fire officials said.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A fire broke out at a Con Edison facility in the East Village Thursday morning, FDNY said.

More than 60 firefighters from 12 units rushed to 230 Avenue C at 8:26 a.m. where the blaze started in an office at a substation run by the energy company, a FDNY spokeswoman said.

Workers were forced to evacuate the building but were able to reenter less than an hour later, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire in under investigation, FDNY said.
