Fire Breaks Out At East Village Italian Restaurant: FDNY

Fiaschetteria Pistoia was praised as a "brilliant bit of Tuscany" by critics. It's unclear how much damage the bistro suffered.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A fire sparked in the ground-floor restaurant of a six-story E. 11th Street building in the East Village late Sunday night, FDNY said.

The blaze ignited in Fiaschetteria Pistoia, a traditional Italian restaurant Eater praised as a "brilliant bit of Tuscany," just off of Avenue C at about 11 p.m., fire officials said.

More than 60 firefighters from 12 units responded to the flames, which took smoke-eaters a half hour to extinguish. No injuries were reported.

The extent of the damage at Fiaschetteria Pistoia is unclear and the fire's cause is under investigation, a FDNY spokesman said.
