Get a Tat This Weekend, Rescue a Dog or Cat

The ASPCA and Grit N Glory tattoo parlor are throwing an event with tattoo promotions and adorable, rescuable dogs and cats galore.

LOWER EAST SIDE — Getting a tattoo to rescue a dog or cat sounds like a pretty solid weekend plan. The ASPCA is hosting an event with Grit N Glory tattoo parlor on Sunday where special promotions on animal-themed tattoos will be offered, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the ASPCA.

Megan Massacre, a television personality who owns Grit N Glory on Orchard Street, is hosting the event, which is called Tats 'n' Tails. Massacre and her team will be doing $100 animal-themed tattoos, and there will be cats and dogs there who are available for adoption, as well as an agility course set up for some of the dogs.

Anyone who adopts an animal at the event will get a free tattoo and t-shirt, and they'll be entered into a drawing to win a $1,000 tattoo from Massacre. There will be animal-themed merchandise, giveaways, and other fun and games.

Massacre has done several charity events before and has found it's a great way to raise money for charity because people get so excited about it, she told Patch. During her last event, she raised over $4,000 for animal welfare, and she hopes to do better this time, she said.

Get a tat, rescue an animal.

"When you adopt, you are simultaneously saving a life, and making room in a shelter for another animal in need of help," Massacre said. "I'm a proud owner of an adopted pet, and I want to do whatever I can to help spread awareness of adoption. As a tattoo artist, I am thrilled to be able to use my art and passion to be able to help animals in need."
