Man Crossing East Village Street Mowed Down By Driver: NYPD
The 69-year-old man was crossing Second Avenue in the East Village Thursday night when the car ran him over, police said.
EAST VILLAGE, NY — A 69-year-old man is fighting for his life in the hospital after he was struck by a car while crossing the street in the East Village Thursday night, police said.
The man was crossing Second Avenue at about 8 p.m. when a red Honda Accord making a left turn from East Ninth Street careened into the senior, cops said.
One witness told the Daily News that the driver had a green light but was turning too fast to keep from running over the elderly man.

“There was a screech and the man was on the hood of the car,” Samuel Rivera, 19, who was biking near the accident at the time, told the newspaper. “As the car was braking, his left wheel ran over the old man. He was unconscious and bleeding from the head.”
Locals flocked to the victim to try and help him until medics arrived, rushing the man to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
