Multiple Arrests Made as #PeoplesMonday Movement Protests Killing of India Beaty
The protest, which started at Union Square Monday, moved to the East Village, where multiple people were arrested, according to witnesses.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A protest in Union Square spilled over to the East Village on Monday evening where multiple protesters were arrested, according to witness video.
The protest started at 7 p.m. in Union Square and was held as part of #PeoplesMonday, a recurring action by the group NYC Shut It Down. Every Monday they march to bring attention to victims of police brutality.
An NYPD spokesman said as of 10:30 p.m. he was unaware of any arrests. Video and photos on Twitter from the scene showed officers making at least one arrest.

The Aug. 15 protest was taken on behalf of India Beaty, a woman who was shot and killed by Virginia police on March 19 after they mistook a replica for a real gun.
A group entered the UCB Theatre East at 153 E. 3rd St. in the East Village and took over the stage, reading about Beaty.
