NYPD Clears Suspicious Package After Morning Scare in East Village
The NYPD bomb squad determined a suspicious package near 195 Avenue A on Tuesday morning contained only trash.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Officers from the Ninth Precinct and NYPD Bomb Squad responded to reports of a suspicious package in the East Village on Tuesday morning, only to find the box contained assorted junk put on the side of the road.
The NYPD responded to 195 Avenue A, outside the restaurant Raclette, to investigate the package at about 11 a.m. Police shut down the entire street for about an hour as the bomb squad investigated the package. Turns out, it just contained glass and golf balls.

The city alerted drivers to avoid the area near Avenue A and 13th Street due to the investigation, but everything was back to normal by about 12:15 p.m.

Tensions are high following the Saturday bombing in Chelsea, as well as the increased police presence due to the United Nations General Assembly being in session this week.
