Police Search For Two Missing East Village Women

Police are searching for two unrelated women who were reported missing from their East Village homes last week, authorities said.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Police are searching for two separate East Village women who were each reported missing last week, authorities said over the weekend.

An 80-year-old woman who lives in an East First Street apartment near East Houston Street was last seen on Aug. 11 just after noon, leaving a relative's house in Gravesend, Brooklyn at Avenue U near McDonald Avenue, police said.

Officials describe the woman, Virginia Proto, as five-foot-five, 130 pounds with a light complexion, long red hair and brown eyes. She is believed to have an ID holder around her neck, authorities said.

Police are also searching for 59-year-old Nurys Herrand, whose family reported her missing from her East Ninth Street apartment near Avenue B on Aug. 9th.

Herrand was last seen by relatives in her home at 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 8. She is described as five-foot-three, 185 pounds, wearing a floral-print dress and black flip flops.
