Tompkins Square Park Hawk Babies Greet The World

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Christo and Amelia have two new mouths to feed. Tompkins Square Park's resident red-tailed hawks are the proud parents of a pair of recently hatched babies that were spotted in their nest over the weekend.

Photographer and bird-watcher Laura Goggin captured one of the nestlings in photos posted to her blog on Saturday, as first reported by EV Grieve.

Urban Hawks confirmed there are at least two babies, known as eyasses, in the nest. The wildlife blog caught both Christo and Amelia on video feeding their new love children.

Christo reportedly partnered up with Amelia after his longtime partner, Dora — with whom he had hatched nearly a dozen chicks — left the park to have her injured wing treated.

Christo started hooking up with another female hawk dubbed Nora shortly after Dora left. Dora returned but got hurt again, so Amelia then took up with Christo, according to the New York Post.

The new babies, at least, have two loving parents who will likely bring them all the rats their hearts desire.

"It's so nice that after all the drama earlier this year, things are back to normal," Urban Hawks wrote.
