Where to Participate in MulchFest in the East Village

East Villagers can drop off their Christmas Trees at Tompkins Square Park Jan. 7-8.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Don't know what to do with your Christmas tree now that the holiday is over? Bring your tree to MulchFest at Tompkins Square Park Jan. 7-8.

East Villagers can drop off their trees and see them recycled into mulch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during MulchFest. The mulch is then used to nourish plantings across the city, according to the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation.

"MulchFest is one of the many annual events that I look forward to because it’s such an easy way to show our commitment to caring for parks across the city," Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver said in a statement. "By repurposing Christmas trees we provide plenty of mulch which serves to reinvigorate New York City’s urban forest."
