Worker Falls 60 Feet From East Village Building, NYPD Says

A construction worker is believed to have fallen about 60 feet from scaffolding on Wednesday, according to police.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A construction worker was injured on Wednesday after falling from scaffolding outside an East Village building, police and fire officials said.

The construction worker, a 62-year-old man, was injured after falling from scaffolding outside 26 First Ave. at about 1:20 p.m., according to the NYPD. A police spokeswoman said the man was believed to have fallen 60 feet to the ground.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital after emergency responders arrived. An update on his condition was not immediately available on Wednesday afternoon.

Department of Buildings records indicate that the building at 26 First Ave. is a six-story building that stands 65 feet tall. A construction application approved on May 1 says the construction was to install copping stone and remove cornice on the exterior of the building.
