Zucker Bakery Closing After Seven Years In The East Village

"Sometimes it's just time to move on in life," said the bake shop's owner.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The quaint East Village pastry and coffee house Zucker Bakery will close its doors on July 1 after seven years in the neighborhood, the owner told Patch.

"There's no sad story, for personal reasons, it was just time for us to move on to something new," said Zohar Zohar, the owner and head baker at Zucker's.

Small-batch pastries inspired by Israeli, North African and Argentinian recipes line the display cases at Zucker's including cookie sandwiches filled with dulce de leche and rolled in coconut flakes, clove-scented dates sprinkled with almonds and rolled in flaky pastry and sweet yeasted chocolate babka cake. The cozy shop also sells savory fare such as knishes and matzoh ball soup.
