Angels, Rock Hounds Earn Bragging Rights in Little League Finals

New champions in the 9 to 10-year-old division crowned this week.

Congratulations are in order for the new Little League champions.

The 9 to 10-year-old boys division finished up their season on Friday, and the East Hampton Town PBA Angels won the 2013 championship. The Suffolk County National Bank Rock Hounds were named the girl's American division, 9 to 10-year-old, softball champions.

In a double elimination round robin tournament format, the Angels knocked off regular season juggernaut Andrew Sabin Family Foundation Indians 5 to 4 at Pantigo Field in East Hampton.

Here's a game recap from the field:

"The game was a tight pitcher's duel between the Angels' Tucker Genovese and the Indians' stellar pitching combo of Colin Ruddy and Charlie Condon. The Indians led 4-2 with two outs in the top of the 6th inning when the Angels tied the game at 4-4 on a ringing double by Carson Soloviev. The Angels took the lead when Daniel Sarlo ripped a liner to right field to score Soloviev from second. John Berti pitched a scoreless bottom of the 6th to seal the championship win for the Angels."

The Angels' coaches were Liz and John Genovese and the roster was made of Tucker Genovese, Daniel Sarlo, Ben Barris, Quintin Soloviev, Carson Soloviev, John Berti, Dillon Haagen Islami, Jax Cantwell, James Farrell, Angus Jarrett, Gavin Edwards, and Julian Link-Morse.

This season was a first for the league in that players were drafted, a move the board made to allow for the most equitable play on the field. Teams were previously composed of players by hamlet. Montauk's team remained the only team consisting of players exclusively from that hamlet because of the distance factor.

The finals of the East Hampton Little League National Division, consisting of 11 to 12-year-olds, will be played this week at Pantigo Field as The East End Physical Therapy Pirates and the Villa Italian Specialty Reds face off in a best of three series. The girl's National (11 to 12) finals between the Springs Fire Department Express and the Amagansett Fire Department Red Wings is also this week.
