Man Arrested On North Fork After Vehicle Break-In: Police
Police say they believe the thief was responsible for several car break-ins over the past few months.

MATTITUCK, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested after stealing property from someone's vehicle in Mattituck, police said.
According to Southold Town police, Scott Wilcox , 56, was arrested on December 5 at 1:26 a.m. on Cox Neck Road and charged with third-degree criminal trespass and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
On Friday, December 5, at 1:26 a.m., the Southold Police received a 911 call from a resident on Cox Neck Road in Mattituck reporting an unknown person on his Ring camera in his driveway, police said.

Patrol units immediately responded to the area; the patrol sergeant requested a Southold Police K-9 unit to respond to the scene, police said.
A K-9 handler and K-9 Solo arrived at the scene a short time later and a track was initiated, police said.

The track led to a fenced-in rear yard several houses away from where the original 911 call came from, police said.
Upon further investigation into that rear yard, Solo was able to locate Wilcox lying on the ground near bushes; he was apprehended and found to be in possession of property that had been taken from a vehicle that had been broken into in the area, police said.
The matter is actively being investigated; it is believed that Wilcox is responsible for numerous vehicle break-ins over the past several months, police said.
