Here are the top stories in East Hampton today:
- New Development Underway At Former Wholistic Tennis Academy Site: A new day is dawning for the parcel where the longtime Wholistic Tennis Academy was located for years on Depot Road in Westhampton Beach. Wholistic Tennis Academy, which closed its doors at the location in October, announced a move to The Barn, located at 142 Montauk Highway, this summer, according to owner Happy Bhalla. And now, plans are in place for the Depot Road location's next chapter: The new Country Pointe Estates, a proposed enclave of 22 single family homes built by the Beechwood Organization at 44 Depot Road, are on the horizon. - Long Island's roads are under scrutiny. "The NY State Department of Transportation says the Sunrise Highway Bridge that runs over North Road in Hampton Bays is rated as being in 'poor' condition per the federal rating standards utilized by the NYSDOT," Dan's Papers reports. According to Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., "While the bridge is of a poor rating, it remains safe to carry legal loads as permitted by the Department of Transportation.” (Dan's Papers)
- Man Sentenced To 25 Years To Life For Murder On Reservation: DA: A Southampton man was sentenced Monday to 25 years to life for the 2019 shooting death of a man on the Shinnecock Reservation, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said. Michael Gaines, 44, was sentenced to 25 years to life for second-degree murder, plus 25 years each for two counts of burglary in relations to the shooting death of Mtundo Vanderpool, Tierney said.
