Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:
- In an effort to ease the East End’s affordability housing crisis in East Hampton, the town board voted last week to adopt an affordable housing overlay district on Route 114 in the Wainscott School District. "The district includes three addresses on the road, including a 6.5-acre site acquired by the town for the express purpose of affordable housing; Sag Harbor Community Housing Trust owns the other parcel," the East Hampton Star reported. "In addition to the overlay district, the town board also voted to amend the town code. The change increases the amount of allowable single-family residences per acre in affordable overlay districts from two to four; the code allows for eight apartment units per acre." (The Real Deal)
- U.S. News & World Report evaluated expert and traveler opinion to find the best weekend getaways from New York City. Wouldn't you know it, the Hamptons was on the list as being 3 hours or less away from New York City. I'm just wondering what time and day did they got that travel time? Weekenders know it can take up to 5 hours to get to the Hamptons on a Friday! (U.S. News & World Report)
- Your voice will be heard as you help redesign the public bus system. Suffolk County is asking residents to share their ideas at a community meeting next week. According to WSHU, "'The “Reimagine Transit Initiative' will be the Suffolk County bus system’s first major overhaul in 40 years. The South Fork will be getting two on-demand transit zones — one in Southampton and another between East Hampton and Montauk Point. There will be fewer bus routes overall, but more trips that would run every half hour." (WSHU)
