Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:

  1. Jefferson D. Eames, 53, of East Hampton died Wednesday night after a motorcycle crash, police said. According to East Hampton Town Police, Eames "was riding a 2011 Yamaha north on Accabonac Road near Banks Court when he veered off the roadway and struck a tree. Eames was transported by East Hampton Ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said." Anyone with information should contact the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential. (East Hampton Patch)
  2. The East Hampton airport has certainly gone through trials and tribulations in trying to privatize its operations. Recently, it appears that it is actually going to happen. "A few more milestones have been reached in the plan to transition East Hampton Airport from a public to a private-use-only facility. After an 'airport airspace analysis' by the Federal Aviation Administration, a timeline for the new facility has been given approval." (WSHU)
  3. News 12 provides a list of Long Island public golf courses to tee-off in. Check out the list for the links in your area. Many golf courses may have restrictions, new rules and different operating hours. Please call the facility before visiting for the most updated information and to book tee times. (News 12 Westchester)
  4. More Long Islanders are rethinking summer vacations with soaring gas prices. Discover Long Island announced a new campaign highlighting the many unique car-free, walkable destinations across Long Island — easily accessible by the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and other mass-transit. The campaign will also highlight Long Island hoteliers that offer their guests free shuttle services to ensure a seamless transportation experience. (LongIsland.com)
  5. In 2017 five young men were lured into a Central Islip park to smoke marijuana. Instead, Leniz Escobar allegedly lured the high school students to their death in order to gain favor with the MS-13 gang, according to prosecutors at her trial. Escobar is facing murder, racketeering and conspiracy charges in the April 11, 2017, attack at the Central Islip park, where four victims’ mangled bodies were later found. (Subscription: Newsday)
