East Hampton Village Hires New Officer, the Third Woman Ever

Officer Jennifer Dunn is the only full-time female officer with the East Hampton Village Police Department.

The East Hampton Village Police Department welcomed a new officer to the ranks on Friday, the only woman on the force.

Officer Jennifer C. Dunn, a recent graduate of the Suffolk County Police Academy, was officially hired at the village board meeting on Friday morning. The board approved her salary of $66,790, starting Oct. 1.

Dunn isn't new the village, however. She has worked as a dispatcher for eight years.

Her father, Dennis Dunn, is a retired police officer, working for the East Hampton Town Police Department. Her brother, Dennis Dunn Jr., is a dispatcher with the town police.

Jennifer Dunn is only the third female full-time village police officer, according to Police Chief Jerry Larsen.

Detective Sgt. Margaret Dunn, now retired, holds the distinction of being the first female officer. The second female officer hired, Janice Deangelo, is also retired.
