Maidstone Opens To Public for Sportsmen's Alliance 'Fun Shoot'
Shoot trap and skeet with the East Hampton Sportsmen's Alliance.

On Sunday, the East Hampton Sportsmen's Alliance will host its third annual Fun Shoot at the Maidstone Gun Club in Wainscott.
The shoot is one of the few times a year that the Daniel's Hole Road gun club, which has a long waiting list for perspective members, is open to the general public. The shoot takes place between noon and 5 p.m.
Shoot trap and skeet with member of the Sportsmen's Alliance, a not-for-profit organization that promotes outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, trapping, shellfishing and other wildlife activities within the town. There are about 60 members.
"We're just trying to get more people involved with the outdoors, especially kids and women," Steve Griffiths, the president of the alliance, said.
Children over 12 are invited to the fun shoot. Those 12 to 14 years old must be supervised by a parent.
The price is $10 per round of 25. Proceeds benefit he alliance's activities, such as putting on the Sportsmen's Expo in April each year. The alliance also recently sponsored a fishing trip for children.
Everyone is encouraged to come down and watch — it's free to attend. Food and beverage will be for sale. Some ammunition will be available for purchase. A brimmed hat, eye and ear protection are required to shoot.
New to the event this year is a "swap meet" that will have a focus on outdoor-related items.
In case of rain, the event will be moved to Sept. 29.
