Village Hardware: Top 5 Selling Items
What's hot at East Hampton Village's hardware store.

Village Hardware of East Hampton was bustling with activity Memorial Day weekend, but the store wasn't just moving paint brushes and nails.
Some of its most popular items range from cooking to household items. James Boyd, the manager, took some time out on Thursday to tell us what practically flies off the shelves.
1. GRILLS
Despite the rainy weather last weekend, customers were thinking about BBQs, apparently. Many of the orders were from renters, who were moving in last weekend and wanted a grill at the ready.
The hardware store assembles and delivers them -- all in the same day if they have what the customers ordered in stock.
"We're fighting to keep up with them," Boyd said. "Someone buys one and we say, 'Get your steam and go home," he said.
2. FERTILIZER
Hamptons homeowners love a lush, green lawn. Bags of fertilizer, and other lawn care items, are big sellers when customers are preparing their property for the summer. Boyd said there were some questions about fungus, so be on the lookout with this damp weather we've been having.
3. LIGHTBULBS
After a winter away, it's no wonder that lightbulbs are on shoppers' lists.
4. MATS
Nothing says "Welcome" like an inviting door mat. There's plenty to select from at Village Hardware, in all types of shapes and sizes. We even saw a fish-shaped mat for those of you with a nautical theme.
5. HOUSEWARES
Boyd said customers prefer one-stop shopping, and some of the most supplies are the best sellers. From brooms as mops to Windex and toilet bowl cleaners, household cleaning items are competitively priced, Boyd said. Plus, lines are usually shorter at Village Hardware, he said. "We want to get the customer in and out as quickly as possible."
