Fidel Castro-Brito, who was nabbed in the biggest sex abuse investigation ever handled in the Town of East Hampton, pleaded guilty to 71 counts on Thursday.Â
3. Independence Party Endorses Cantwell
Larry Cantwell, who declared his candidacy for town supervisor last month, now has the support of the East Hampton Independence Party. The committee nominated Cantwell, a registered Democrat, last week over Zachary Cohen, who ran for town supervisor in 2011 on the Democratic line — and had the Independence committee's support.
4. Schneiderman Faces Challenger in November
Jay Schneiderman will face a challenger in his effort to earn his sixth and final term as a Suffolk County legislator. Chris Nuzzi wants to move onto a county position after serving on the Southampton Town Board for eight years. A Republican-elected councilman, he has reached the term limit. On Tuesday night, he screened with the Southampton Town Republican Committee, though the decision ultimately lies with the Suffolk County GOP.
5. New Faux Roof Helps Firefighters Better Prepare
The East Hampton Fire Department added a new, custom built faux roof structure at the East Hampton Town Fire Districts Training Facility in Wainscott, which allows firefighters to practice roof operations, such as ventilation, without the dangers of actually working atop a real roof.Â
