Clarke Wrestler Is First State Champ In School's History
Jordan Soriano took home the gold, defeating his final opponent 10-1 in the 2022 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships.

EAST MEADOW, NY — W.T. Clarke High School senior Jordan Soriano made East Meadow history on Feb. 26 as he became the school’s first New York State wrestling champion. Soriano earned a 10-1 victory over South Seneca’s Caleb Sweet in the NYS Division 2 138-pound finals at the 2022 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships.
Throughout the tournament, Soriano accumulated two falls and a 6-2 win in the semifinals before his dominant performance in the finals. Along with Jordan, Rams junior wrestlers Jack Forte and Justin Soriano earned third-place honors at the state tournament. Justin and Jack both fell in the quarterfinals before mounting a comeback, stringing together four wins each on the consolation side of the bracket. Additionally, seventh grade county champion William Grassini earned a win in the tournament.
The Rams placed fifth overall in the tournament, which marks the highest finish in the school’s history.
