Drive-By Shooting Leaves Nassau Man Injured: Police

Police say the victim was also arrested for possessing illegal handguns.

UNIONDALE, NY — A Nassau man was injured in a drive-by shooting Monday afternoon, police said.

According to police, officers responded to a Shot Spotter notification on Ditmas Avenue. Police say an 18-year-old man was outside when a car with multiple people in it drove by and fired several shots at him, striking him in the leg. Police recovered multiple shell casings in the road. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, police say they found the man was in possession of an illegal gun. Police executed a search warrant on his home and found a defaced 9mm handgun.

The man was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and will be arraigned when medically practical.
