CNN’s Carol Costello to Lead Hofstra Program on Cyber-Bullying

Award-winning CNN reporter and anchor Carol Costello will lead a wide-ranging discussion about social media and bullying on Wednesday, Nov. 10,. 2010 from 4:30- 6 p.m. at the Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center, South Campus.

The program, called "Social Networking, Privacy and Bullying: A Constructive Dialogue with CNN's Carol Costello" is a broad-based effort to address the increasing use of technology, particularly social media, in bullying. Costello, a frequent contributor to CNN's American
Morning, recently did an in-depth piece on bullying. The program also will include some first- hand accounts from victims of bullying. It will be moderated by Hofstra Professor Mary Anne Trasciatti.

The event is free and open to the public, although space is limited. It is being sponsored by a diverse group of campus organizations that includes the Provost's Office Task on Diversity, Honors College, the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, the School of Education, Health and Human Services, the Hofstra School of Law, the Dean of Students, the Golden Key Honor Society, the Student Government Association, and the Pride Network. In addition, a number of student groups are supporting the program.

Those who wish to continue the discussion after the program has concluded are invited to attend a follow-up session as part of the 2010 Ethics and Human Value Series called "Social Networking, Privacy and Bullying: Continuing the Dialogue, Constructively" from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Axinn Library Lower Level Lounge.

Carol Costello joined CNN in October 2001 from WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., where she was an anchor and investigative reporter. She has interviewed three former or sitting presidents, covered three presidential inaugurations, and has served as a frequent guest host and anchor for many CNN programs. She has won several awards, including a 1991 Emmy award for a special on crack and cocaine. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kent State University.
