Man Found To Have Drugs After Running From Officers In Nassau: NCPD

Officers recovered what is believed to be cocaine and oxycodone after they chased a man down early Monday, police say.

UNIONDALE, NY — A man was arrested in connection with possession of drugs following a foot pursuit in Uniondale early Monday, Nassau police said.

Officers saw Sergio Espinoza, 20, of Uniondale, who was wearing a black face mask, walking south on Nassau Road near the intersection of Van Buren Street around 3:45 a.m., police said. As officers approached Espinoza, he began to run northbound on Nassau Road, police said. As Espinoza ran, he threw his jacket, a fanny pack and a switchblade onto the ground, police said. Officers were able to apprehend the Espinoza after a short foot pursuit, police said. No injuries were reported.

Officers recovered a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine and two white oval pills believed to be oxycodone from Espinoza's fanny pack, police said.

Espinoza was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and violating the Nassau County Title 90-Mask Transparency
Law, police said.

He was arraigned Monday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
